My Favorite Book Series

There’s nothing like a great book series that starts and finishes strong. You know those books where you can’t wait to pick up the next one in the series? Like A Song of Ice and Fire……still waiting for that next book! Here are some of my favorites that are complete series so you can keep reading without having to wait for the next book to be published.

Favorite Fantasy Book Series

The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan (completed by Brandon Sanderson). If you’re a fan of A Song of Ice and Fire and Lord of the Rings books then you’ll want to give The Wheel of Time a try. Warning – for avid readers only as this is a 13 book series! And they are not small books either.

The book is a fantasy series with loads of interesting characters and plots, intrigue, and good humor. There is so much going on, so you will really want to read it more than once to soak up the whole story. I found that when I had a break in between reading the next book I would end up going back and reading the previous books to re-acquaint myself with what was going on with the characters. Every time I reread a book, I would discover something that I missed in the first read.

The good thing about this series is that it starts off strong from the beginning and gives you a good sense of the style and nature of the series. So if you’re not into it from the start then there’s no need to read 5 chapters to figure out if you’re going to like it. Give The Eye of the World (Book 1) a try and let me know what you think.

Favorite Thriller Series

For those who prefer thriller crime novels, the Millennium series is excellent. I read the 3 originals written by Stieg Larsson – The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, and the The Girl who Kicked the HornetsNest. The books are those stay up late at night binge reads. There are some reviews where readers say the first book starts off slow but I found I was into it from the beginning.

The plot and characters really build up throughout the first book and there are great twists in the story that will keep you reading! I enjoyed how opposite the two main characters were and I was especially intrigued by Lisbeth. If you enjoy a book with a strong and unique female character this series won’t disappoint. It’s definitely a great read if you enjoy an edgy, even a bit dark, crime thriller.

Favorite Romance Series

And for those who like romance with some substance there’s the Me Before You Trilogy by Jojo Moyes. I’m not a big fan of empty, predictable romance novels and this series is far from that. After I read the first book, I grabbed the second one right away.

This series will evoke a number of emotions. It’s heart warming, happy, sad, and thought provoking. It’s a light read and it’s great for beach days, rainy days, well, any days really.
